I. Objectives

(1) The students should meet the requirements of Hohai University; (2) The students should have a solid English foundation and be well-read; (3) The students should have a good knowledge of English-speaking countries and other countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America;(4) The students should be able to speak good English and can  apply their language ability to disciplines like Hydrology, Water Resources, Water Conservancy and Hydropower, Ports and Ocean Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, etc.

II. Degree Courses

Introduction to English Phonetics, Spoken English(taught by foreigners), Advanced audio-visual English, English of science and technology, Basic English Writing,  and Academic English Writing.

V. Practice-oriented Courses

Graduation Thesis Writing, Translation, Interpretation, etc.

VI. Requirements to get the academic degree

(1)    Double Majors:

At least 40 credits are required. 13 of the credits are from the essential courses, 10 from degree courses, 10 from selective courses, and 7 from practice-oriented courses (i.e. thesis writing and oral defense of thesis). As for the other requirements, see the relevant section in the “Undergraduate Educational Plan for English majors”.

For those who have signed up for a second degree study in English and acquired at least 24 credits but somehow failed to complete the required courses and credits, a certificate of their minor in English will be granted.

For those who have signed up for a second degree study in English and learned some major courses or selective courses and passed the examinations, but somehow failed to complete the required courses and credits, course certificates will be granted.

(2)    Minors in English:

Those who minor in English should complete at least 24 credits.
