From March 13 to 16, the 14th National Forum for Deans/Department Heads of College English Education was held in Guangzhou. Faculty representatives from our college attended the event, with Professor Zhang Hairong, Dean of the college, invited to preside a sub-forum.
Co-hosted by the MOE National Advisory Committee on College Foreign Language Education, Shanghai International Studies University, and Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, and supported by Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press, the forum, themed Communicating China, Shaping the Future, focused on three key areas: college English curriculum development, digital technology applications, and teaching material development, attracting foreign language education experts from higher education institutions across the country.
The event featured keynote speeches by distinguished scholars. Academician Zhao Qinping from Beihang University explored the application of VR technology in education, Professor Hu Kaibao of Shanghai International Studies University shared insights on textbook compilation, and Mr. Wang Xiaohui, Editor-in-Chief of China.org.cn, discussed strategies for translating and disseminating traditional Chinese culture. Other experts exchanged ideas on AI in education and teaching evaluation reform.
Dean Zhang Hairong presided over the sub-forum AI Empowering College English Teaching. She emphasized that emerging technologies present new opportunities for foreign language education, calling for innovative applications of AI in teaching. The forum provided a valuable platform for our faculty to engage with peers nationwide, further enhancing the quality of foreign language teaching at our university.
