Upon the invitation of the College of International Languages and Cultures, a three-day cultural exchange between the American scholar delegation and the College of International Languages and Cultures started here at May 19th. The American delegation of 8 scholars was led by Ms. Grotts, winner of the Friendship Award which marks the highest honor awarded to foreign experts in Jiangsu province. Deputy dean Du Hui, deputy secretary of the Party Committee Zhu Zhimei, college instructor Wanglu, college instructor Hua Chenchen and all the undergraduates of grade 2013 warmly received these foreign friends.

In the morning of May 19th, the College of International Languages and Cultures held a welcome ceremony at the conference center of Jiangning campus. At the ceremony, professor Du Hui, the deputy dean of our college extended a warm welcome to the American scholar delegation, and then introduced the present status of the college encompassing our college-running characteristics and schooling philosophy. He also highlighted the measures our college has taken in encouraging students to participate in the international exchanges and extended his hope of normalizing these interchange activities. In response, delegate of the American scholar delegation also showed gratitude to this invitation by referring the visit as a great opportunity to be thoroughly exposed to Chinese history, culture and traditional arts. In the end, the delegate conveyed his support in establishing a long-term program for foreign exchanges and cooperation.

At the welcome ceremony, our students actively showed Chinese historical culture and traditional arts by putting on brilliant performances of calligraphy, tea art, Chinese zither, bamboo flute playing and folk songs in a lively and harmonious atmosphere. During the following days, American scholars will join, in a form of penal discussion or team work, into the students’ daily English learning process and campus life, bringing an intuitive appreciation for western culture and western education.
